It seems the rub here for me is in;
-Upgrade percentage (DL wins) vs. Nonstops (AA wins). After having automated upgrades for years on DL, CO (im gold via Amex Centurion) and US (im plat via Amex Cent) it may be a tough transition for me to go to a sticker system that, despite its extra effort, yields a significantly lower upgrade %. So I may need to be reasonably sure I get to EXP quickly.
-That non-stop ORD-DEL on AA is a big plus, esp. with the upgrade only costing a few hundred bucks vs. DL whom I'd have to fly over CDG on AF and not get upgraded b/c its on AF metal.
Like I said earlier, you are going to have to tough it out until you go EXP. My suspicion is that post EXP,your upgrade percentage, even out of a hub (mine is over 90% out of DFW), with some planning, will surprise you.
Or you could do a ORD-ATL-BOM-DEL on DL (except for the last leg).
