My experience with seats 4a & 4b

I was advised that I should try to get 3a & 3b because these were better seats and I'd have to totally disagree. The main concern about row 4 a & b was that the seats were in front of the flight attendant's desk. There was a very thick wall behind our seats. Right behind that was the desk with a computer that no one seemed to use much and when they did they just sat there quietly. The galley is directly behind 4 c,d,e, even that wasn't noisy because the wall is so thick and there really is only noise during meal service. The buffet is actually located behind the galley, behind the hallway so it's actually quite far and I never heard anyone back there once the lights went out. The flight attendants actually seemed very considerate of the "dark quiet time", I found them to be incredibly friendly, polite and helpful and most of all considerate of the passengers comfort. 4 f & g would not be good seats as these are directly in front of the bathroom and people do mill around there even though there is a curtain it must be annoying to hear the people approaching and leaving on such a frequent basis. Now back to row 3 a&b, these were the same as our seats but the tv was on an arm that folded out of the seat which is annoying if you want to watch something during meal time, the tv on the seat back in row 4 was much better. Lastly, the middle seat in any of the biz class rows is horrible if you dont know the person on either sideof you. When the beds are extended you would have to crawl over that person or just not get out. For the life of me I can't imagine why they designed it this way, when the standard seems to be 2x2x2, I guess they could squeeze some more revenue into each flight. On the way out we had the brand new plane, version 3 I guess that had the foot stopper and deeper leg pockets in the back of the chair in front of you. On the way back we had version 1, with no foot rest and the hole that your legs go into was not nearly as deep so my feet hit the top and jammed against the back and I'm only 5'8", my husband at 6' could not extend the bed because his legs did not fit in the hole. Not sure how you can check and see which version plane you are booked for but I would definitely check that out if I fly AF again. The toiletry pack was the weakest I've ever seen, it was really lousy. The food also was really lousy with the exception of the cheese, wine, and desserts, the food was dreadful other than that. The IFE was great, although I think they could have used a better variety of non-film programs. For TV programs they only had CSI, Friends and the Simpsons, which is a weird combination. The lounges at CDG were great, the sandwiches, pastries and snacks were nice whereas in most domestic lounges you only get nuts and crackers. Overall, I would fly AF again in biz class, but I would try like heck to get a version 3 plane. On the way out, on version 3, it was the most comfortable lie flat bed out of te 3 compared to CO and NW.
