What really gets me is that more than once I've plugged into an IFE that the last user must have left on full volume. When using my own personal earphones it is loud enough to burst your eardum and cause serious damage and because the volume control is tied to the play function controls (which are disabled during the commercials) I cannot even lower it. Not that I want to watch the commercials or anything but AC really needs to get these things programmed to go back do a "normal" volume when they are re-started as opposed to playing at whatever volume that last passenger left it at.

I noticed this as well on three different flights last week. I believe that the volume is reset for each flight but the volume is likely preset for the poor-quality headphones that they sell. I just take them off and do something else until I can adjust the volume. It would be nice if they would fix the system so you adjust the volume during commercials.
