Two separate records, as I said. Paid and ticketed separately (one an award, one not).

This is done a certain amount and there are frequently questions about it on the AA and BA forums here. The answer is always that there is no problem if both are OW carriers; your luggage is interlined.

If the luggage is not going to be properly handled, AA should not tag the luggage to the final destination and send it through. But AA does do that, and the luggage does usually arrive fine. The only time I had the problem was recently when I OLCI'd on BA and then checked in with AA. Even then, AA did not tell me there was a problem, they sent the luggage through.
