I'm going to (slightly) hijack this thread...but it doesn't seem that far off-topic.

Scenario: I (1K) fly to LA in January. Wife (2P) flies to meet me a week later. She is waitlisted using miles from her account for the OGG-LAX flight.

1] A few days later, we fly together (but on separate PNR's) to ABQ. CRJ700, wide open F cabin (F6, NF6, and .bomb tried to sell her an upgrade on this leg for $159.99). I have lots of e500's, she has none. How do I sponsor her with e500's? Do I have to call? I tried several ways on-line, but no-go.

2] Flying back together. UA35, 777 from SFO-OGG, only upgradeable flight. Right now she is waitlisted using miles from her account. Should I cancel that and sponsor her with e500's? Or would it be better to use a CR1 for her? Which would give her the best chance of getting an upgrade?

I'll probably use e500's for myself, unless they open up some NF inventory, then I'll switch to a CR1 so that we can grab seats together before the day of the flight.
