You've got it right there. If you are talking about a cat 7 or cat 6 hotel, then you did not get the sampler, which is the one that allows you to split hotels. The sampler gives you three certificates (2/2/3 nights) which can be used at any European property. The certificates do not have cats.
A seven night stay requires seven nights in a single hotel. The sampler allows you to split properties.
