Many people assume that the door will securely close when leaving. Because of misaligned doors, aging door closers and such, I always make sure that the door is firmly closed when I leave. I've seen many doors that even looked secure, but were not latched.

The same issue with the deadbolt not working, or the strike plate being misaligned, and not allowing the bolt to fully extend is also a common issue.
