A little late, but still: Bon Marche is now the toniest of the grands magasins, along the line of Bergdorf's or Bendel's. Printemps and Galleries Lafayette are exhaustive but also exhausting on a weekend (I was there Saturday). I hope you were able to make short work of your mission and buy some scarves somewhere. Pricey but gorgeous Hermes scarves, if they're in your budget, are exchangeable for another pattern if she doesn't like the one you chose. Or you can try those nice leather-trimmed folding nylon canvas bags by Longchamp called Les Pliables. Many forms and sizes, available at department stores as well as free-standing outlets.
