Probably true in many situations for US-based FT'ers, although there might be exceptions for some people interested in earning miles. For example, someone who flies regularly and mostly on Continental but not enough to accumulate high EQMs on a regular basis (e.g. flies short haul in Y) might be interested in the Continental Presidential Plus Card (even with its high $375 fee) because $ spent earn EQMs (and the card also provides Elite Access, President's Club Access, Hyatt Plat status and Avis President's Club status). But that's a whopping fee to pay on an annual basis.
