*A lounge in CDG: United non grata

I was flying Lufthansa today from CDG to FRA, and I asked about the status of the Star Alliance Lounge. The Lufthansa agent told me that the lounge was now open (on the non-schengen side of passport control) but that United *Gold would not grant access unless I was flying business or first class. According to the agent, only *Gold members from Lufthansa, Air Canada, British Midland, and a few others were eligible.

...? Is United not a full member of the Star Alliance??? I can understand that some partners limit access to their own customers due to the size of the lounge, but I was under the impression that a Star Alliance lounge was for all members of the Star Alliance? Who owns the lounge? I don't even know who to complain to....

Its bad enough that CDG Terminal One is soooo horrible. But this just adds to the frustration.
