Question: My Room Door Open Upon Returning from Dinner

I would like to solicit advice on how to proceed following this event last month. Those that know me know, I'm not one to ask or demand compensation, but feel something is due here. Curious to see how it appears from other points of view.

I recently stayed at a Starwood Hotel, in a major American tourists area, where our meetings were being held. Booked at the group rate, checked in fine, meetings took up most of the day. I showered and relaxed in the room before heading out for dinner with the group. My own laziness that I didn't bother lockiing up any of my valuables, then off I went for a night out with everyone.

Arrived back to the hotel a few hours later, Lots of teenagers mulling in the lobby and runnng up and down the elevators, got off at my floor without paying much attention to any of the hustel 'n' bustle.

Approaching the room, I was shocked that the door to my room was partially opened. I opened the door the rest of the way. The room had been cleaned/turned down, towels replaced, etc, a pizza delivery flyer was on the carpet next to the entrance. I did a quick check, but it did not appear that any of my valuables were missing.

No matter how secure they claim the hotel to be, it's obviously not. By allowing pizza delivery flyers under the doors, it can be assumed that access is to more than just guests and staff. Negligently leaving my door open on an unsecure floor is a huge breach of the basics of Hotel Standards.

I went immediately to the front desk to discuss it and impress upon them how unacceptable this breach of basic security was. I spoke to what appeared to be a member of the security team at the front desk. He took notes, tried to satisfy me that they would take it seriously, and promised that someone from the hotel would contact me directly.

Not a peep. No calls to my room. Nothing at check-out, (but that didn't seem the place to do a fire dance like I've seen others to a million times). No calls following my departure. No emails. None. It appeared as if they've slipped this one under the carpet.

After waiting with no contact from them, I emailed reservations for the hotel. I re-stated my experience, my disgust that promised follow-up never occured, and asked for some type of response from the hotel executive.

I received a form letter email from the General Manager, assuring me that they'd delt with it, and that dispite no losses, they did fail to meet expectations, plus a brief apology and a signature.

Somehow I still feel unsatisfied. I know some would have jumped up and down, demanding a free room. But, no offer of a partial refund, SPG points, no offer or a discount or free night was brought up.

Do I stand alone thinking that some form of compensation is warranted? Granted the room wasn't expensive anyway, but price isn't the issue for me.
