YES. I was #1 on the waitlist as a 1P. I just read lots of flyertalk articles on how to work the system as much as possible.
The other person was number 3. I remember seeing first 3 letters of his last name on the screen at number 3.

Keep in mind that the list is quite fluid, and can change in a moment's notice. Actually, I've found it to be inaccurate several times.
I've talked to customer service representative at ORD. She told me I was indeed number 1 on the waitlist, very likely I woud clear.
