I read on the CO board once that the agents get a bonus for each call that they transfer, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same with UA.
Out of generosity to nice agents, I have taken the transfer a few times and then hung up. I wonder if there's any minimum to how long the call has to last with the car company before the UA agent gets the bonus.
I assume that it's the car companies that pay for the bonus and not the airline(?).
