How about buying just a one-way now and a one-way when you want to return? I haven't checked your route, but with enough advance purchase, some DL one-ways are comparable to half of a round trip fare. If you are a PM on award travel, you can make changes for no cost. That is about all I can think of barring cancellation of your flight due to irrops or corp. decision.
