Ah, but you forget the novelty value to me of flying in NNCW , so i want to say it (and type it) as often as possible! Then again, i suppose "J" makes me sound more like a seasoned pro

Not daft at all...I paid for W and MFU'd to J a couple of months back, as the company has this cr@ppy policy of J for work and Y for training/conferences - so I paid for W and got them to reimburse me the cost of the Y fare they would have paid. The W cost me an extra GBP400 and 25k miles (gross; net cost wasn't too bad as I'm silver). So no, you're not daft . And I think you should ask them to reimburse you the cost of the Y fare that they would have had to pay.

In my case the miles have been earned on both business and leisure travel - with a predominance of leisure travel in the last couple of years, so I felt entirely comfortable asking for the Y fare to be paid to me.
