Does anyone else think i'm daft?

Just for clarity, i dont mean in general . No, what i mean is, does anyone think i'm daft for using my own miles for a redemption booking for work travel?

Work travel for me is 99.9999999% short haul, LCC (Sleazyjet, FlyBE, BMI Baby) but on the one occasion i have previously been fortunate enough to fly L/H for work, the most they would shell out for was WTP (and that was only if it included a Saturday stay - otherwise it was WT for weekday travel). Naturally i MFU'd to NNCW when i did this trip last time, at a net cost to me of 15354 miles (25000 less the 9646 miles i earned).

I need to travel L/H to JFK again in April and the same policy applied to these flights - WTP if i travel over the weekend, or WT if i'm there and back in the same week. I'm only going over for a couple of days for some meetings, and with little Miss Efin (approaching 2 as we speak) and Mrs Efin at home i wanted to avoid eating into my weekend. So, taking advantage of the 50% mileage sale at the moment i've just burned 62,500 miles of my own to fly F on the outbound and NNCW on the return leg - with my work picking up the taxes and fees. Am i crazy? I know this is effectively costing me 37000+ miles extra on top of what an MFU would cost, but as TPs are currently meaningless to me (i'll never reach silver in a month of Sundays) i thought it was worth it so i could travel there and back on weekdays, get a bit of luxury on the outward leg (and sample a few hours in the CCR at T5), and not miss out on my valuable weekend with the family. The other advantages to me are getting to fly F on a 747 for the first time (only flown once before in F in a 777 in December 05), sampling the T5 CCR, and the fact i can gleam brownie points from the office for minimising expendiure during this period of belt-tightening (the entire flight costing a mere £370.90 to the business).

I know there are many of you out there who will regularly MFU for L/H out of your own miles (although i'm sure for Golds perhaps flying to the West Coast this becomes even more of a no-brainer given the distance flown, cabin bonus and tier bonus), but i wondered if anyone else has ever used their own miles for work travel?

The other question is if people think i'm daft for actually getting excited just now when my flights isnt until April 09?

So, now i'm off to find the threads now on the T5 CCR (dining options as i'm a hungry boy), and whats the best seat in F for a single traveller on a 747 (already in seat 2A which i think is the best one - at least i hope i get to stay there and dont get seat shifted!).
