I'm sorry but I have to disagree with this. If BA put a passenger on another airline be it direct or with 6 connections there is no cost consideration as the revenue from the flight the pax was supposed to take just gets passed on to the new carrier/carriers.

If the OP misses the DFW flight, BA would first look to other carriers (pref direct, if none available then offer connections) and then offer an overnight and rebooking on the next BA flt to DFW.
