You could use some US mint coins. There's one way to cash em!

I was once long ago driving on the NY state thruway without any cash seeking out some exit that may have an obvious spot for an ATM (rule of thumb: never get off an exit unless you can see the sign of the thing you are looking for--ie, GAS HERE or EAT HERE or ATM HERE) and I did not find one. We got to a toll and I was told to go into the office and fill out a form to owe them the $2. I then said, "Could I pay it now? I have a check book!" They yelled at me saying, "You could have paid the toll lady with that check" and they took it then and there. This was in the mid 1990s.
