The E sometimes was crowded; other times the car we were in was empty. For a woman to be alone in a car which is nearly empty is taking an unnecessary risk. However I always felt safe in the subway at that hour with my husband. You want to advocate for Andrea to go alone, hey, go for it. I, on the other hand, would recommend it at such an early hour.

It made the news because the young woman ran after those muggers, beat one up, and thus fought back. She wouldn't play the victim thus such actions like hers were newsworthy.

I probably will still leave a bit earlier than that, but if it's already rush hour I won't be so worried about the station being deserted. I also know better than to fall asleep on the train or get into an empty car, so hopefully no one will see me as a potential crime of convenience. (Thanks for posting the story, though. It's always good to be aware.)
You're welcome. If you leave after 6am, there will be plenty of people and you'll be fine on the subway. As for getting to JFK on time leaving plenty of room for security, you might be cutting it close.
I'm flying JetBlue, by the way. I understand they have their own terminal now? I guess that should make things quicker through security.
It's hit or miss regarding the speed of going through security in the morning.
