my friend in college had his dorm window broken. It wasnt his fault--was done from the outside--but they blamed and fined him $60 anyway. he fought this but no luck for him. They wouldn't even give him his semester credits that year unless he paid!

So finally he went down to the admin office with the letter saying what he owed and dumped about $50 in loose bills on the table along with piles of change and a bunch of pennies totaling to $60.

They actually wrote him a 3 page letter telling him off and asking him to come down and count his change. he went in, stood there counting and said, "in the time it took you to argue this, you could have done it. He got the receipt and fought the issue once again in student court and he won. they sent him a check 3 weeks later.
