I often fly in economy and get Priority Tags on my checked bags as an UA Elite on AC flights. Most of the time my bags are in the first wave... except YYC. Calgary has the worst baggage handlers and Customer Service Reps at Counter Service admit it. I have had over 25 flights into YYC this year, and have NEVER had my bags off first (priority).
If you are flying into YYC and can stuff everything in a carry-on, you may want to consider that option if you are in a hurry.
And yes, I have sent notice to AC and they respond with a lengthy letter saying they will try improve. I am still waiting.
That is completely true! I fly in and out of Calgary very often - if on WestJet - baggage comes off within the 20 minutes they say - usually less.
When on AC - OMG - sometimes up to an hour - Priority tagged or not. Just last week I arrived in Calgary twice. The first time we missed our United flight connection because the baggage took too long to come off - and yes - that was with the US Connection tag coming into the US transfer area. 5 of us were re-booked. A few days later I was flying from Vancouver to Calgary and I mentioned to my travelling companion that there is no rush off the plane as it will be at least 40 minutes for our bags to arrive. She laughed. 1 hour and 5 minutes later our bags arrived - and mine even had a priority tag!!
