I think this was touched on, but it bears clarification: hotels, particularly airport hotels, should offer 24hr rates rather than 3pm-11am rates. If you arrive at 10am and want to rest until 4pm, you've used two "days" under a standard rate.
Or a "day rate" if you have a reasonable hotel. And the day rate is often less than an overnight rate.
I'd hate a switch to 24 hour rates if it meant that rates would go up because the hotels' ability to use the rooms went down.
