Does he have a frequent flyer number on UA? If not, then you might consider making one for him soon to start building up a history of travel.
(For the same reason, 18-year-old college freshmen tend to have a lot of trouble getting their first credit card....the credit bureaus don't see much--if any history--on their SSN.)
