Favorite and least favorite US metal
I have been on every plane that US fly's domestically in the past 2 years. If it has coach, I have sat there. If it has a FC, I have been there too. I have not been on the intl planes, the 767 and A330.
However, out of all their planes, my favorite ride is the Beechcraft 1900D. No creature comforts, no Lav, no FA, no FC. But it is a good ride for a turbo-prop, and it gives me a feeling as to how early airline travel must have been. It doesn't even have a secure flight deck door. Just two plastic doors that don't even seal off the flight deck.
I used to take that plane on the MCI to JLN route, which was about 250 miles. I wouldn't like to go any further than that. I took a night flight this past winter on one. It came in from DFW, and looked okay. When we tried to depart, the Captain could not get the engines to start. The battery was too low. We had to switch to another 1900D that had been sitting for a while, and was at a chilly 20 degrees inside, thanks to the cold KC night.
That little plane will put back you back in the seat at takeoff, and it cruises faster than the Dash's. Of course, that route is now eliminated, a victim of the US midwest flight cutbacks. I don't know when I will get the chance to take one again. I like to think of that plane as the funnest way to earn 500 miles.
My least favorite plane, the SAAB 340. I believe this plane is now gone from the fleet, with the exit of Colgan Air. If it is still out there, I will avoid it like the plague. Unlike the Dash-8 and the 1900-D, it buzzes and vibrates like crazy, even after the Captain throttles back after initial take-off. Worst plane I have ever flown on. It is a formidable challenge for any set of noise-canceling headphones.
