CW Service Routine: Why are water bottle and washbag handed out by the crew?

And wouldn't it be nice if you were to find them both waiting for you at your seat, especially in case of an overnight flight?

They could be waiting for you:

-- on the pillow;
-- in the drawer;
-- on the table (unlatched but not unfolded fully so not to block you from putting someting on the seat);
-- perhaps the bottle on the inner armrest of the seat and the washbag in the drawer.

Some crews hand out the stuff quite soon after boarding and before takeoff, especially if there's a bit of a wait on the ground but others don't. Mainly on shorter redeyes I find it so much more comfortable to be able to popp a sleeping pill upon taxiing/once I know reasonably safely that we'll be airborne shortly and be sound asleep within short. Doesn't work, however, if I'm still waiting for the washbag (sometimes not needed) or the water (really need that).

Would it be a big issue for BA to ask their CW crews (don't know about first but would assume/hope that they would hand you the stuff immediately upon boarding) to hand out the amenities as swiftly as possible?

Comments? Thoughts?
