This is THE main road between the airport and Acapulco, or from Acapulco to Diamante and the other main beach and condo area one bay over. So this is a Mexican bandits issue, not anything having to do with Las Brisas. I stayed there about a year ago and was friendly with several people who had rental cars and they had no problems, as I'm sure is the case with 99% of the people who do so. Sucks when you're the 1%, but I don't think it's fair to pin that on the hotel. Nevertheless, there's no reason to rent a car in Acapulco unless you're using it to head out of town. It's cheaper and easier to just take taxis.
