For the past few months, I have been renting every week from Avis at MKE, generally from Friday-Tuesday or Saturday-Tuesday. The prevailing rate has been $18.99 a day or so with the weekend stay.

This week I am only in town from Sunday night to Tuesday morning. Avis is $51.00 a day (total with taxes and surcharges = $134.72) while Enterprise is offering a $10.95 rate with unlimited mileage (total about $36.00).

As much as I dislike Enterprise, with higher mileage cars, limited hours, no counter bypass and often a hard sell on the LDW, renting from Avis is not worth an extra $100.

Has anyone ever had any success with Avis matching other agencies' rates? I know that National does so, on occasion (a manager at National in RIC told me once that they would match Avis's rates upon request)...so it doesn't seem like a totally outlandish idea to me.
