I never mentioned AA ... only Delta number, Delta codeshare, sale on DL.com.
Finally, thanks to DiverDave (thanks! ... as well as to everyone else on here as well), I sent a mileage request to the link he provided and within one hour, had the credit. The mistake I was making was going through regular customer service and not the mileage credit route.
