I'll second the North Face Surge. I've had one of those for several years now. Well padded and when fully loaded, it's still comfortable to wear on my back.
I am actually thinking of getting some strap attachments sewn onto the bottom so that I can roll my pillow or even a jacket to carry. THAT would make it the complete pack!
