Your 2 double beds were gaurenteed in the original email, if the hotel did not provide those beds for you then you would have got a bit of cash as per the elite gaurentee - and so most likely the hotel would have actually met that gaurentee.
If you still want to stay there you should be 100% within your rights -And I'm sure Marriott central support (any elite customer services number) would make sure that the hotel honoured the original reservation in all its parts. Having said that, by cancelling the reservation you have effectively let the hotel off the hook for their dubious practices (or it could be a mistake, sometimes they do happen)
I canceled because i didn't trust that they would have followed through on their original promises. I was not prepared to risk $1400, when clearly the hotel is changing peoples reservations without letting them know.
I am more than happy to spend that $1400 on tickets to the game.
I will be following up with Marriott International. I will keep everyone updated.
