Scenario: first flt. of the day (early morning) from SFO-BOI was canceled, friend doesn't know why. He was put on standby for next flt. and missed that too (too many standbys). He also missed the rest of the flts. that day. All he was offered was a free hotel room and meals. They told him he didn't qualify for a free ticket since the first flt. was "canceled"! Doesn't sound right to me. I'm not sure if he was flying UA but aren't the rules the same for all airlines?
