VX: San Diego Airport
1st flight on VX, so while some other VX fliers might find this too routine to write up, I thought I'd pause over this Nathan's hot dog to pass along some notes about the San Diego VX area.
I was the only one in the entire ticketing area (all airlines) besides staff and some military personnel. Recession!!! Ok, maybe it was because I was 2 hours early, but still, slightly weird.
There were four-ish automated check-in machines that looked like monitors with a card reader mounted on the side, didn't see any printers, but I assume they were there. Since I was the only one there, they waved me over to the counter. Check in was a blazing 10 seconds (literally, no exaggeration). Got my boarding pass, surprised at the size (basically about the size of an odd-shaped index card).
I was the only one who went through security in about a 5 min window. Literally everyone was just standing there looking bored. I asked the ID checker about this and she said that this checkpoint was "usually this slow", so perhaps a good tip for people if the other side is crowded. As before, I'm sure it's just that I'm here at an odd time, but scary nonetheless. The only other person in this food court sitting area is an employee.
VX appears to operate out of a single gate (35) which is 3 gates past security. Food, etc. as per below.
Pre-Security (Ticketing side):
- Bank of America ATM
- Starbucks
- La Salsa
- McDonald's
- submarina
- "TCBY" Treats
- Requisite Gifts/News shop.
Plane-Side (past Security)
- TravelEx money exchange booth (closed)
- Sees Candies
