When I needed to fly NW, PDX<>MSP for a funeral about 8 years ago, the travel agent told me that NW's standard bereavement fare was 1/3 of full Y, i.e. not a particular bargain, since full Y was $2100, and I had flown that route for as little as $200 on advance purchase fares.
