Fare go up AND down all the time, sometimes several times in a day. Just because the website wouldn't accept your AP doesn't mean fare is going up. AC's website is always difficult especially if you are using IE.

If you believe you had a great fare last night, you could have just booked the flight without AP then add the number to your reservation later.
