Will the new SQ SIN-LAX nonstop cause you to fly UA less?
For the many of you here on FT who fly UA to Singapore frequently, will SQ's new nonstop flight cause you to shift some of your travel from UA to SQ? In your response, please include the fare type (first, business, full-fare economy, discount economy, deep discount economy) you normally purchase and whether or not you generally upgrade on this route.
Starting with myself, this is not really relevant to me anymore since I will be returning to the U.S. in 4-5 months and will not be flying to Singapore frequently. However, my flight back will be on UA 1)because I do not want to endure a 16+ hour flight in Y when I can upgrade to C on UA and 2)because the flight time to any U.S. gateway other than LAX will be no different since I will have to make 1 stop either way.
I generally purchase corporate-contracted discount economy tickets (M or H) and upgrade with miles. The company will not, under most circumstances, purchase business class tickets.
