I, for one, do not believe the OP will have problems actually changing the tickets if he will simply call AA and state that "you changed my flights and the current itinerary doesn't work for me." Keep it SHORT and SIMPLE.

You probably have not had any real experience in flight changes on award tickets. When it is award ticket, it does NOT work the same way as a revenue ticket. With a revenue ticket, they have much bigger power to put you on other flights, sometimes even to another airline's flight. Not so for award ticket which depends on award seat inventory.
The 240/80 has no bearing in this situation.
Wait till you run into similar situation on an award ticket, you will then know how difficult it is, should there is 0 award seat inventory. I wish you good luck to never have such issue to put your theory to test.
