All NYC taxis -- whether four-passenger or five-passenger -- charge the same metered rate. There are some minivan taxis, so these are probably the five-passenger ones. There will likely be a taxi dispatcher on duty at the taxi line at LGA (at which terminal will you be arriving?), so let the dispatcher take a look at your luggage (and car seat), and perhaps the dispatcher will try to get you a minivan taxi if one is needed.

Our entire trip consists of leaving DFW at 6:40 AM; fly to LGA; xfer to JFK; fly JFK to MXP (Milan); pick up rental car and drive to Nice (3.5 hrs). I don't think I want to add losing a 2 (or 6) year old child at a NYC train station into the mix
