Can someone clarify how this works? For example, I am looking for 2 FC tickets LAX to Sydney. On one particular day I see R1 (in expert mode). I assume this is coming from the United database, thus the same info the rep sees. So can the rep override this and give you R2? I just do not understand how this R1 can be just an 'estimate' if it is what the United database says is available.

There are other Star Alliance carriers. Their flights don't necessarily show up in the Mileage Plus award database that you see on the web. And there can be myriad routings. Perhaps if you are sticking solely to nonstops on UA metal, you WILL see all the possibilities on the web. Also, the CSR seems able to search forward and backward across a range of dates much more efficiently than we can on the website.
