I placed two identical rentals for today at the SLC airport, one with Hertz the other with Avis. Both for "Chevy Trailblazer - Full Sized SUV". Just to see what was up.

I get off the plane and walk to the Hertz board, walk out to the stall, low and behold a base Ford Explorer, cloth seats beat to crap.

So I walk over to Avis, get the keys and they gave me a Hummer H3. Not a huge upgrade but leather seats, very well maintained. So Avis won...

What bothered me the most was the fact that there was a brand new Volvo and a Infinity FX35 sitting there unassigned at the hertz pickup.

The kicker... the Avis rental was $4 cheaper. That cinches it, I wanted to make sure I gave Hertz a fair shake, but they have continued to unimpress me.

Just for fun I went to the Hertz customer service desk and told them what I did to see their reaction. Their response "You got the car you reserved... if you have a problem, email the manager."

I understand you have your issues, but to place reservations and not pick up 'cos you don't like the car, then it seems a waste of our staff resources as it has to be valeted, your reservation also means one less car for someone who may genuinley need one. Nice one NOT!
