I've always liked the turkeys from the vendor at the Union Square Farmers Market. DiPaola's turkey or farm or something like that. You let them know what size you need and they put it in a notebook for pickup that week. They are at other markets too, not sure if they do the same thing or not.

When I was in that area, every week I would go and buy thighs, and we got our birds there for the holiday.
