Ok, stupid question time...

Neither Jet'Dillo or I drink, so we would not have much use for these things. But in theory we might be able to get some on our upcoming trip. So what, exactly, are they good for, when, how and by whom? Like if I had a pocketful of them, would I be everybody's friend?
