The Hertz / Avis Showdown...
OK, so as I posted in a previous thread, I've been getting fed-up with the customer service and lack of upgrades with Hertz, I am a Hertz Presidents Circle member, and I have literally stopped getting any upgrades. I however also happen to be an Avis Presidents Club member. So I devised a test.
I placed two identical rentals for today at the SLC airport, one with Hertz the other with Avis. Both for "Chevy Trailblazer - Full Sized SUV". Just to see what was up.
I get off the plane and walk to the Hertz board, walk out to the stall, low and behold a base Ford Explorer, cloth seats beat to crap.
So I walk over to Avis, get the keys and they gave me a Hummer H3. Not a huge upgrade but leather seats, very well maintained. So Avis won...
What bothered me the most was the fact that there was a brand new Volvo and a Infinity FX35 sitting there unassigned at the hertz pickup.
The kicker... the Avis rental was $4 cheaper. That cinches it, I wanted to make sure I gave Hertz a fair shake, but they have continued to un-impress me.
Just for fun I went to the Hertz customer service desk and told them what I did to see their reaction. Their response "You got the car you reserved... if you have a problem, email the manager."
