Interesting sidebar for all that fly this route.

Used to be one flight number LAX-MEL-LAX of UA 815/816.

Numbers seemed to have changed a couple weeks back to those posted.

So NOW anyone using a One segment upgrade certificate (lots are out there) cannot use it to MEL as flight number CHANGES.

One segment upgrades used to be good on 2 segment flights, as long as flight number was the same.

Oddly miles earned to not differ much at all by adding the 500 miles minimum segment.
