I dunno about everyone else, but if you can negotiate J (or F for that matter) into your contract, doesn't that mean you are worth something? I don't particularly mind it, but before this forum I hadn't heard about it before (and my friend in employment law said its fairly rare). Thus I would conclude that the employee in question is a) worth so much to the company (a major revenue producer?) that they would consider such a clause b) they are unlikely to be fired just because of demanding J as they are one of the people that really helps the business go around c) they are that good that they are probably paid a shed load in any case, and great at their job, so being laid off wouldn't be so much of a problem anyway! If none of the above are true, then both the company and the employee have made some errors in judgement!
My contract says J over 6 hours, the travel budget says otherwise. I have got it without a question for SIN, HKG and HNL. I have done YYZ, PHL, LAX and MCO in Y because I knew that I could manage and that it would negatively impact the budget.
Oddly enough, at the moment I'm doing a lot of LX shorthaul J because it often prices up cheaper than Y at short notice.
