Does anyone know if retailers' gift cards (Safeway has quite an assortment--iTunes, Nordstrom, etc.) are eligible towards the two $250 purchases? I've looked but can't find anything on the Safeway site, but sometimes I'm so focused on finding something that I can't see it.

Not sure if they'll consider other merchants' gift cards as "gift certificates."
