Sometimes I book something other than a king because of a significant rate difference. I put a note in the comments stating "I would prefer a king bed if available, thanks." Most suites are kings and I do not think I have been passed on an upgrade because of bed selection. You can also mention your choice at check-in. For me it was never a problem but YMMV.
