Worth Complaining? [Missed flight due to broken down Avis hire car]
Hi all,
I'm new here (although a long term reader!) so please bear with me on any mistakes! I will try to keep this epic tale as short as possible, but just thought I'd use the combined experience of the board to see if there is any point in wasting my breath with a letter to BA.
Quick Summary
Booked 4 return flights with BA to Atlanta (cash)
Exec Member (only blue)
BA Amex Cardholder
160,000 miles in account and 2 companion vouchers
Booked my hire car through BA Exec with Avis
Return trip missed due to Avis car breakdown and 3 hour delay in Avis getting to us (Avis have accepted problem and let us keep a top range car gratis until we could get home)
BA Atlanta not interested in speaking with me and despite talking to them throughout the breakdown referred me to London the next morning.
BA London not interested (with exception of being prepared to sell me full priced Business Class flights home).
Despite being stranded in Atlanta with wife and kids would not phone me back with any options to get back home.
Spoke to Exec Club who said I could not use companion vouchers and I didn't have enough miles to get back without them.
That's a very quick overview of hours on the phone trying to get someone to help. I didn't expect charity (evidently the ticket class was z so it was tough) but as I use BA 3/4 times a year to the states I at least hoped for some assistance in helping me get home.
Their attitude was that once I had missed the flight I ceased to be a customer.
In the end flew home 2 days later with Delta. Cost over $5,000 but handled well by them and even gave a free business class upgrade as we had 'had such a bad time'.
Now, this will (hopefully) be covered by insurance so the money is not the issue. What was an issue was the lack of support for someone on holiday with his wife and kids. The fact that I missed the flight due to the failure of their recommended business partner was deemed irrelevant and even when I was prepared to pay/use miles or anything to get back to work and get the kids to school, obstacles and rules were quoted.
Would just like to know if this is me being unreasonable after a crap time or if this was poor service that I should rant about.
