Am I the only one who feels like a second-class citizen every time a straight couple gets some kind of kudos for their marriage?
For example at work we get emails asking people if they want to participate in a lunch and donating to a present for people who are getting married. Now, the company is fairly progressive (medical benefits and all), but somehow I find this an inconsiderate reminder of my lack of equality.
I think from now on we should be fair and treat people equally. Even straight allies deserve to be reminded that their wives are their "partners", and their marriage is just a "union". Re-married, divorced people should be called by the historical term in vogue before Henry VIII was bored with his wives. If he was gay and not just libidinous, today we would be arguing about divorce, not gay marriage.
