I'm considering doing a series of runs for the Buy 2 Get 1 Free promotion, but they would involve a very quick changeover in LAX (1 hour roughly) which would mean that I'd have to check-in at the gate instead of going out through security.

No question this used to be fine, but with all the ID checks outside the security gates now will this be a problem?
