I think that's one of the reasons why an airline like Emirates is able to be profitable-it doesn't have to deal with work unions and the like. That's a big advantage for them. This could be different say, if they mistreated employees and had to rehire, retrain etc. The airline wouldn't be able to have quality control, standards would deteriorate and eventually so would profits (like QR if you go by the OP's story).
